An exceptionally rare work on the Czech market by the important French expressionist Maurice de Vlaminck. The painting House in Brittany is a prime example of his typically expressive style, characterized by dramatically contrasting colors and an energetic, free painting technique. Here, Vlaminck continues the tradition of post-impressionism, especially the legacy of Vincent van Gogh, but with a distinctive emotional urgency and monumental feeling.
The painting dates from the artist's late period, when Vlaminck was intensely devoted to landscape painting and village scenes. This painting was repeatedly exhibited in renowned Japanese institutions in the 1990s and is reproduced in the corresponding exhibition catalog.
