About the artist:
Ira Svobodová is one of the most prominent figures on the contemporary Czech art scene. She graduated from the Academy of Fine Arts in Prague and has had a number of successful solo and group exhibitions at home and abroad. In her work, she systematically focuses on geometric abstraction, working with the illusion of space, and exploring the relationship between the painting surface and three-dimensional space.
The painting Paravan 14 comes from the series of the same name, in which Svobodová thematizes the screen as a functional and symbolic element — an object that separates and connects space at the same time. Here, the author masterfully works with the illusion of volume, light and shadow, creating an almost sculptural illusion of depth on the flat surface of the canvas. Precisely defined geometric shapes evoke architectural structures, in which pastel and saturated shades alternate, the contrasts of which enhance the spatial effect.
Paravan 14 is a testament to Svobodová's ability to combine minimalism with decorative aesthetics, optical illusion and the philosophical question of the boundaries between real and illusory space. Her work is valued for its technical brilliance and intellectual dimension, which is also confirmed by the growing interest of collectors and the professional public.
