About the artist:
Michal Gabriel is one of the most important Czech sculptors of our time and a laureate of the Jindřich Chalupecký Award (1995). In his work, he has long explored the connection between traditional sculptural materials and modern techniques, often working with bronze, but he is not afraid of experiments with epoxy materials or 3D printing. His works are part of public and private collections and a number of prestigious galleries.
About the work:
The sculpture Rider Covered with Structure from 2014 is an example of the author's characteristic work with texture and organic form. The theme of the rider — an archetypal motif throughout the history of art — is treated here by Gabriel with an original approach. The surface of the sculpture is covered with a plastic decor that gives the object not only a haptic quality, but also a visually captivating effect. The work works with a contrast between classical figurative form and abstract structure, creating tension between history and the present.
The bronze sculpture comes from a limited edition of seven pieces, which underlines its collector appeal.
