About the artwork

In this work by Libor Vojkůvka we encounter a typical expression of his interest in symbolic and surrealist composition. The painting combines a floral arrangement in a ceramic vase with unusual and at first glance incongruous elements – a spread-out card game, a die and an abstract blue shape. The flowers, finely modelled and vividly coloured, contrast with the geometric and playfully stylised objects in the foreground, creating tension between reality and fantasy. The colour palette is harmonious: the warm tones of the flowers are complemented by the cold blue and earthy brown of the vase.
